Hartwick is among the North East’s elite liberal art colleges both academically and athletically. Hartwick has a reputation of academic excellence and offers a most diverse selection of degree programs, with a strong emphasis on a liberal arts education. Our campus is truly beautiful. We are located on a scenic 425-acre site on the northern slopes of New York’s Catskill Mountains, in Oneonta, a town considered by some experts to be among the top ten best college towns in America. Hartwick offers a small college atmosphere; as the student/faculty ratio is 11 to 1, and the average classroom size is 15. Yet we are only 70 minutes from the state capital, Albany, and two and a half hours from New York City. 5-0

Hartwick won at Penn State Behrend making us 5-0. This is a great accomplishment. On thursday night we travel to Keuka Park, NY to take on Keuka college at 7p.m. If you are in the area come and show us your support as we try to improve to 6-0.

Hartwick is 4-0

On Tuesday Hartwick traveled to Schenectady, New York to take on Union College. Hartwick won a close game 62-61. Although down at the half, Hartwick came back to win the game. Great play by Anthony Keane who had 15 points helped secure the win. Keane in the 2nd half made a half court shot with the shot clock running out. Blazek who had 17 points, Ryder who had 9 points, and Suderley with 15 points also had great games. Christian Laputka came off the bench and had 4 assists to go along with his 4 points. Great play also came from Andres Carpio, Travis Godley, Aaron Laing, Jon Zehe, and Mike Geisser.

The team will play again Saturday when the travel to Mark Blazek and Jon Zehe hometown in Erie, Pennsylvania when they play Penn State Behrend at 2 p.m.

Hartwick picks up a pair of wins at the Manhattanville tournament

This weekend at the Manhattanville tournament we picked up a pair of wins. Friday night we played Brooklyn College and tonight we played Manhattanville. We beat both teams by six. Friday night against Brooklyn we had four players reach double digits. Mike Geisser, Mark Blazek, Jared Suderley, and Chris Ryder. Ryder had 12 rebounds along with his 13 points giving him a double double. Mike Geisser helped us secure the victory with great fourth quarter play.

Tonight against Manhattanville, Mark Blazek had a great shooting performance making 6 of 7 shots from behind the arc and ended with 30 points and had six rebounds. Chris Ryder had 17 points along with 4 rebounds. Jared Suderley had 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists. Their was great play all around from Andres Carpio, Anthony Keane, Christian Laputka, Mike Geisser, Jon Zehe, and Aaron Laing. In addition Coach McGuinness played a key role with his play calling and coaching overall.

Hartwick does not play again until Tuesday when we travel to Schenectady, New York to face Union College. Game time is at 8p.m.

Tomorrow we travel to Purchase, New York to take place in the Manhattanville tournament. Friday night at 6p.m. we play Brooklyn college and Saturday we play Manhattanville at 5p.m. If you are in the area please show up to show your support.

Hartwick Men's Basketball Starts the season off with a win



Last night we played Wells and were able to pull out a victory. Although it was a close game at the end the team put on a great performance and won by 2. Three players scored in double digits. Mark Blazek had 19 points, Chris Ryder had 13 points, and Jared Suderley had 11 points. The bench also chipped in and played great. Everyone is happy that we were able to start the season off right with a win. This weekend we will be traveling to Purchase, New York to play in the Manhattanville tournament. We play both friday and saturday. Friday we play at 6p.m. and Saturday we play at 5p.m. If you are in the area please do show up to show your support.

Hawks Chosen to Repeat in Empire 8 Men’s Basketball Poll

The Hartwick men's basketball team, which won its first Empire 8 title last year and advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship for the first time in 15 years, was selected to finish first in the Empire 8 Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Hawks, who received six first-place votes in the poll, return all five starters from last season's championship squad. Senior forward Chris Ryder (Port Washington, NY/Port Washington) earned first-team all-conference honors last season, ranking in the top-10 in the Empire 8 in scoring, rebounding, blocks, and free throw percentage. Jared Suderley (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) was named Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and Empire 8 Men's Basketball Championship Most Valuable Player. He led the Hawks in scoring and finished second in the conference.

Tomorrow Night we open our season against Wells. Tip off should be at 8p.m. in Aurora. Please come if you are in the area to watch as we begin to defend our title and start another great season!
