Hartwick is among the North East’s elite liberal art colleges both academically and athletically. Hartwick beat Ithaca and Utica

Over the weekend we played both Ithaca college and Utica college and we beat both of them. Friday night we played Utica college and beat them by 37 points. The ending score was 96-59. Saturday afternoon we played Ithaca college and had revenge from a home loss to beat them 78-75.

Against Utica every player on the team saw playing time. The team was led by Jared Suderley with 21 points and 12 rebounds. He also added a steal and a block. Chris Ryder had 13 points and 8 rebounds, and 2 assists. Anthony Keane had 13 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, as well as a steal and a block. Andres Carpio had 9 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. To round out the starters, Mark Blazek had 9 points, 3 assists, and a rebound. Due to the high lead in the game during the second half, the starters had the opportunity to have some rest.

Off the bench everyone saw time. Most notable off the bench was Mike Geisser. Geisser had 18 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. Christian Laputka had 3 points, 3 assists, and a steal. Aaron Laing had 2 points and 3 rebounds. Dustin Gratto had 4 points and 3 rebounds. Mike Henson had 2 points and 2 rebounds. Peter Melanson had 2 points and 1 rebound.

Saturday afternoon we were able to avenge our home lost against Ithaca to come back and win Saturday afternoon 78-75. In the finally seconds we were up by 3 but Ithaca guard Sean Rossi hit a game tying 3 pointer. Although, Anthony Keane in the final seconds answered back to hit a 3 pointer and win the game.

Jared Suderley had another great game with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists. Mike Geisser who started in place for injured guard Mark Blazek had another great outing with 19 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal. Geisser went 5 for 5 from 3 point land. Andres Carpio had 11 points, 4 rebounds, and an assist. Carpio also went 3 for 5 from beyond the arc. Chris Ryder had 9 points, 16 rebounds, a steal, and 2 assists. Anthony Keane who hit the game winning 3 pointer had 16 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds.

Off the bench, Aaron Laing had 4 points, 6 rebounds, and a block. Christian Laputka had an assist and a rebound. Jon Zehe and Travis Godley also saw time on the floor.

Both of these wins were Empire 8 games. This brings our record to 18-2 and 8-2 in Empire 8 action. We are off til Friday when we play Alfred in the Lambros Arena. Game time is 8 p.m. and the Women's team will play before us. Last time we played Alfred we lost. That gave us our first loss of the season. The team is again waiting to avenge the lost. The next day on Saturday we play Elmira college at 4 p.m.

Hartwick is now number 1 in Empire 8 standings





Yesterday we played Stevens and won the game. With the win we are now number 1 in the Empire 8 standings. The ending score for the game was 68-66. It was a great win and several players made their mark in the game.


Mark Blazek led the team with 19 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Anthony Keane who scored a career high 18 points and 6 rebounds. Keane had a great game and sparked a second half scoring run. Jared Suderley had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Chris Ryder chipped in 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Andres Carpio added 2 points, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds.


Off the bench Aaron Laing added 6 points and 5 rebounds. Christian Laputka had 2 steals and an assist. Victor Angeline had one 3 pointer, Mike Geisser had 3 rebounds and an assist. Other players who saw time off the bench included Travis Godley and Jon Zehe.

Ryder named Empire 8 player of the week



Chris Ryder had been named Empire 8 player of the week after his performance against St. John Fisher and Nazareth. Against Nazareth, Ryder recorded his 1000th point. The team is off today but will play tomorrow at Stevens at 8 p.m. Over the weekend we will be playing against Utica, Friday night at 8 p.m. and then Saturday afternoon against Ithica at 4 p.m. Both of these games are Empire 8 games. Hartwick picks up 2 wins

On Friday night and Saturday afternoon we played two games and we won them both. Friday night we played St. John Fisher and won 76-58. It was a great game. Then Saturday afternoon we played Nazareth college and won 87-65.

Against St. John Fisher, Mark Blazek led us in scoring 24 points going 6 out of 7 from beyond the arc. Blazek's 3 pointers all came in the first half where he went 6 for 6. Chris Ryder recorded another double-double going for 14 points and 12 rebounds. Jared Suderley went for 12 points and 8 rebounds, in addition he had 3 assists. Anthony Keane had 7 points, 4 assists, and 5 rebounds. Andres Carpio had 6 points.

Off the bench several players saw time. Most notably were Aaron Laing, Christian Laputka, and Mike Geisser. Aaron Laing had 2 points and 4 rebounds. Christian Laputka had 4 points and 2 assists. Mike Geisser had 6 points and 2 rebounds. Dustin Gratto also saw playing time which he recorded a block.

Saturday afternoon we played Nazareth college. Chris Ryder led the team with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. During the game, Ryder recorded his 1000th point. This is the first time in several years where the basketball team had 2 players with over 1000 points. The other person is Mark Blazek who recorded his 1000th point last year.

Jared Suderley had 20 points and 7 rebounds. Anthony Keane had 7 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal, and a block. Mark Blazek had 15 points and 4 assists. Andres Carpio had 5 points and 2 assists.

Once again several players saw playing time. Once again the main players off the bench were Aaron Laing, Christian Laputka, and Mike Geisser. Laing had 12 points, 4 rebounds, and a block. Laputka had 4 points, 4 rebounds, and an assist. Geisser had 2 points, 4 assists, and a 4 rebounds.

Other players off the bench included Matt Petruccione, Ken Johnson, Shiva Sentihil, Brendan Griffin, Victor Angeline, Travis Godley, Mike Henson, Dustin Gratto, and Jake Karker.

After these two wins Hartwick has 15 wins and 2 losses. In the Empire 8 conference we are 4 and 2. We are off til Tuesday when we travel to Hobokan, New Jersey and play Stevens at 8 pm. We do not play at home until February 3 when we play Alfred college. We would like to thank the fans for all of their support and we hope it continues.

Jared Suderley was named to the D3Hoops team again for the second time. After playing great against both Ithica and Utica. On top of this he is also in the running for top play of the week in division 3 basketball. You can vote for him here!

The men split the 2 games again

Over the weekend we played Ithica college and Utica college. These were both Empire 8 games and we split the pair. Both at home on Friday night we played Ithica and unfortunately lost but came back Saturday afternoon to defeat Utica college.

Friday night against Ithica the ending score was 73-71. Jared Suderley led the team with 21 points and 12 rebounds. In addition was almost perfect from the charity stripe going 11 for 12. Mark Blazek added 17 points and 8 rebounds. Andres Carpio had 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. While Chris Ryder had 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Travis Godley saw his first start of the season and chipped in 3 points and an assist.

Off the bench several players saw playing time. This includes Matt Petruccione who had 7 points. Aaron Laing had 4 points, 3 rebounds, and a block. Other players who came off the bench include Jon Zehe, Christain Laputka, Mike Geisser, and Anthony Keane.

The next night we played Utica college and won a tough game. The ending score was 87-81. At the half of the game it was tied up but at the end of the second half we were able to pull away. Suderley had a monster game with 33 points and 9 rebounds. In addition he went 4 of 5 from behind the arc. Mark Blazek had 28 points and 5 rebounds. Chris Ryder had 9 points and 14 rebounds. Carpio added 3 assists and Mike Geisser got the starting nod and had 2 points and 2 assists.

Once again several players came off the bench. Christian Laputka had 3 points and 4 assists. Laing had 4 points and 5 rebounds as well as a block. Anthony Keane played very well providing two key steals which both led to points in the secound half. Overall he would add 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, as well as those 2 key steals. Other players who saw time were Mike Henson, Travis Godley, Victor Angeline, Jon Zehe, and Matt Petruccione.

We are off til Friday when we play St. John Fisher at 8 p.m. at the Lambros Arena and the following day we will play Nazareth at 4 p.m. at the Lambros Arena. These are both Empire 8 games show up and show your support.

Hartwick Splits two games

Over the weekend we travel to Elmira, NY and Alfred, NY. Unfortunatly we split the games with a win in Elmira and a loss in Alfred. The loss at Alfred gave us our first loss of the season, resulting in our record now being 12-1.

In Elmira against Elmira College we won 71-60. We had three players in double figures. Anthony Keane had 18 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds. Chris Ryder had 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Jared Suderley had 14 points and 3 rebounds. Andres Carpio chipped in 6 points and added 5 assists. Mark Blazek had 8 points.

Several players saw playing time from the bench but Aaron Laing, Christian Laputka, and Mike Geisser say the most playing time out of all the bench.

In Alfred we played Alfred University and lost. The ending score was 66-72. This was the first loss of the season. With this loss we have matched the best start in Hartwick history when it comes to men's basketball.

Once again we had three players reach double figures in points. Chris Ryder led the team with 20 points and 8 rebounds and shot very well going 8 and 11 from the field which includes making both 3 point attempts. Mark Blazek had 13 points and Jared Suderley had 11 points and 4 rebounds. Anthony Keane chipped in 4 points, while, Andres Carpio added 2 as well as 4 assists.

Once again several players from the bench saw playing time. Travis Godley had 5 points, Christian Laputka had 1 point and 4 assists. Jon Zehe had 4 points and Aaron Laing had 6 points.

After this loss we are at 12-1 and 1-1 in conference play. We are off til Friday when we play Ithica college at 8 p.m. in Lambros Arena. The following day we will play once again at home against Utica college at 4 p.m. Please come and show your pride while we try to improve our record.

Hartwick picks up another 2 wins



On December 28th and 29th Hartwick traveled to York, PA to play in a tournament. On the 28th we played Delaware Valley and won 82-68 and on the 29th we played Penn State-Abington and won 104-90. While picking up the two wins we won the tournament.


Against Delaware Valley, Jared Suderley led the team with 34 points and 12 rebounds. Chris Ryder registered a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Anthony Keane chipped in with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and, 3 assists. Mark Blazek had 8 points as well as a team high 4 assists. Andres Carpio had 7 points as well as 2 assists.

The next day against Penn State-Abington, Suderley again led the team with 28 points. Carpio registered 17 points and 3 assists, Mark Blazek chipped in 15 points, Keane had 8 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds, Ryder had 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Victor Angeline chipped in 6 points both 3 pointers. Aaron Laing came off the bench to score 13 points and 7 rebounds.


At the end of the tournament Suderley was named tournament MVP and Andres Carpio made the all-tournament team.


In addition to being tournament MVP, Suderley has been named the Empire 8 player of the week and has been added to D3hoops.com team of the week.


With these two wins the Hartwick Men's basketball is 11-0. Hartwick opens up its Empire 8 play this weekend against Alfred and Elmira which are both away games. Friday at 8 p.m. we play Elmira and Saturday at 4 p.m. we play Alfred. If you are in the area please come to the game and support us.
