Hartwick is among the North East’s elite liberal art colleges both academically and athletically. Hartwick offers a small college atmosphere; as the student/faculty ratio is 11 to 1, and the average classroom size is 15. Yet we are only 70 minutes from the state capital, Albany, and two and a half hours from New York City. BLAZEK NAME EMPIRE 8 PLAYER OF THE WEEK


ROCHESTER, NY - Hartwick sharpshooter Mark Blazek (Erie, PA/Erie Cathedral Prep) was named the Empire 8 Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday for his performances against Skidmore, Ithaca and Elmira last week.


Blazek scored a career-high 35 points to lead Hartwick to a 72-62 win at Elmira on Saturday, hitting a career-best eight 3-pointers. He surpassed the 20-point mark in all three Hawks' games with 23 points against undefeated Skidmore and 21 at Ithaca. For the week, Blazek averaged 26.3 points (25-of-52 from the field, 15-for-32 from three-point range, and 14-of-18 from the line) and 3.7 assists per game.


For the year, Blazek leads the team and ranks in the top 5 in the Empire 8 in scoring with a 23.1 points per game average. The reigning Empire 8 Rookie of the Year has knocked down 27 three-point baskets in the Hawks' first seven games.
