Hartwick is among the North East’s elite liberal art colleges both academically and athletically. Hartwick has a reputation of academic excellence and offers a most diverse selection of degree programs, with a strong emphasis on a liberal arts education. Our campus is truly beautiful. We are located on a scenic 425-acre site on the northern slopes of New York’s Catskill Mountains, in Oneonta, a town considered by some experts to be among the top ten best college towns in America. Hartwick offers a small college atmosphere; as the student/faculty ratio is 11 to 1, and the average classroom size is 15. Yet we are only 70 minutes from the state capital, Albany, and two and a half hours from New York City. Hawks earn a bid in the NCAA tournement

Today we found out that not only did we earn a bid in the NCAA division 3 tournement but we will be hosting it this weekend. At 7:30 pm, Friday night we will be playing Farmingdale State in the Lambros Arena. Prior to our game MIT and Skidmore will be playing at 5:30 pm.

We hope that everyone will show up and show your Hartwick Hawks pride as we start the tournement.

Ithaca downs Hartwick in Empire 8 semi-finals

Last night we played Ithaca in the Empire 8 tournament semi-finals. Unfortunately we lost 79-67. Jared Suderley led the team with 24 points 12 rebounds. Anthony Keane had 13 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds as well as 3 steals. Chris Ryder had 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Mike Geisser had 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. To round out the starting line-up, Andres Carpio had 3 assists, 2 rebounds, and a steal.

Off the bench several players saw time. This includes Christian Laputka, Travis Godley, Mark Blazek, Aaron Laing, and Mike Henson.

Laputka had 2 points and 3 rebounds and Aaron Laing had 4 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

We would like to thank everyone who came out to the game last night and everyone who has supported us throughout the season. On Monday we find out if we made the NCAA tournament.

We would also like to say goodbye to our seniors Mark Blazek, Chris Ryder, and Andres Carpio and wish them luck!

2 Hawks named to Empire 8 all conference team

Recently the conference teams as well as other awards from the Empire 8 have been announced. We are happy to say that 2 Hawks, Jared Suderley and Chris Ryder have been named all conference first team. With Jared Suderley named Empire 8's Men's basketball player of the year. One top of this Andres Carpio has been named one of the Sportsman of the year. In addition Coach Todd McGuinness has been named Empire 8's coach of the year after leading us to a 23-2 record and top seed in the Empire 8 tournament.

Once again congratulations to Jared, Chris, Andres, and Coach McGuinness.

Blazek Named Capital One Academic All-American

Mark Blazek one of our senior captains has been named to the Capital One Academic All-American team. Mark is one of five division 3 athletes to be named to this team. Mark shows what it truly means to be a student athlete. Mark has a 3.96 GPA and has been named to the dean's list every semester he has been at Hartwick. One top of all of this Mark is a member of several clubs that effect Hartwick. Mark should be very proud of himself as the team is proud of him.

We do not play until Friday when we start the Empire 8 conference tournament which we will host at the Lambros Arena. Friday at 8 p.m. we will play Ithaca college. Please come and show your support!

Hartwick jumps in D3hoops's top 25

As many know last week we were rated top 25 in the country from D3hoops.com's top 25 teams rankings. With our win over Stevens on Saturday we have jumped to 21st in the country. This is a tremendous honor and the guys should be proud.

With the win against Stevens we now will host the Empire 8 conference tournament this weekend. In the first round we will play Ithaca college at 8 p.m. in the Lambros Arena. Show up and show your Hartwick pride!

Hartwick defeats Stevens



Last night we played Stevens and won to clinch the Empire 8 regular season title for the first time in school history. Everyone who played had a great game. The ending score was 96-71. In addition we said goodbye to our Seniors Mark Blazek, Andres Carpio, and Chris Ryder and it was great to send them off with a win to end the regular season.


Jared Suderley led the team with 25 points and added 7 rebounds. He also added 3 assists and a steal. Anthony Keane had a near triple double with 16 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds. In addition he had 3 steals. Chris Ryder had 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Andres Carpio had 5 points. Mike Geisser to round out the starters had 11 points, 2 assists, and a rebound.


Off the bench several players saw time. This includes Christian Laputka, Travis Godley, Aaron Laing, Jon Zehe, Dustin Gratto, Matt Petruccione, Peter Melanson, Brendan Griffin, and Shiva Senthil.

Christian Laputka added 14 points, 5 rebounds, and an assist. Aaron Laing had 4 points, 4 assists, a rebound, and a block. Travis Godley added a 3-pointer.


With this win we are 23-2. This has been a great season and it is not over yet. On Friday we start playing in the Empire 8 conference tournament. On Friday we will play Ithaca college at home in the Lambros Arena. The game starts at 8 p.m. Please show up and show your Hartwick pride!

D3 Hoops names Hartwick top 25

Hartwick Men's Basketball has just been named to D3Hoops.com's Top 25 teams in the country for division 3 basketball. This is an amazing accomplishment and the guys should be proud of their hard work and dedication.

Once again Saturday at 4 p.m. we will be playing Stevens this is the last regular season game of the season. Also at this game we will say goodbye to our seniors Mark Blazek, Andres Carpio, and Chris Ryder. Please come and show your support!

Suderley named Empire 8 player of the week

Jared Suderley has been named the Empire 8 player of the week. Over the weekend Suderley and the Hawks won both games against St. John Fisher and Nazareth college. Over the two games, Suderley averaged 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds on 70% shooting from the floor. He also hit 11 of 12 free throws.

We are off til Saturday when we play Stevens at 4 p.m. This is also senior day as we say goodbye to Andres Carpio, Mark Blazek, and Chris Ryder. Please show up and show your support as we say goodbye to our seniors.

Hartwick picks up 4 wins

Over the last four games we have played we have won all four. These victories include Alfred and Elmira last week and Nazareth and St. John Fisher Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th of February.

Against Alfred the ending score was 63-64 and we prevailed. Jared Suderley led the team with 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists. Anthony Keane added 16 points, 3 rebounds, 4 steals, a block, and 2 assists. Chris Ryder had 4 points, 9 rebounds, a blocks, 2 steals and 3 assists. Andres Carpio had 4 points, an assist, and 2 steals. Mike Geisser started due to injuries with Mark Blazek. Geisser had 5 points and 6 rebounds.

Off the bench Aaron Laing, Christian Laputka, Travis Godley, Victor Angeline, and Matt Petruccione saw time.

Laing had 7 points, 6 rebounds, and added a steal and a block. Christian Laputka had 3 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, and a steal. Travis Godley added a 3-pointer.

The next day we played Elmira. The ending score was 59-52. Once again Suderley led the team with 25 points and 8 rebounds. Ryder had 15 points, 7 rebounds, and a block and steal. Geisser ha 6 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal. Keane had 4 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. Once again Geisser started and had 6 points and 4 rebounds. Carpio chipped in 1 point, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds.

Off the bench Godley, Angeline, Laputka, and Laing saw playing time. Laing had 5 points, 3 rebounds, and a block. Godley had another 3 pointer. Laputka added an assist.

On Friday we played Nazareth college. The ending score of the game was 83-65 and once again we won.

Suderley led the team with 25 points, 6 rebounds, and an assist and a block. Keane had 19 points, 9 assists, 3 steals, a block, and a rebound. Geisser had 15 points, 7 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Ryder had 12 points, 14 rebounds, an assist and a block. Carpio added 3 assists, 2 rebounds, and a block.

Several players saw time off the bench. This includes Matt Petruccione, Aaron Laing, Brendan Griffin, Mike Henson, Jake Karker, Mark Blazek, Christian Laputka, and Dustin Gratto.

Laputka had 8 points, 2 steals, and a rebound. Blazek had 2 points. Karker had a rebound. Laing had 2 points and a rebound.

On Saturday we played St. John Fisher and won 64-62. Suderley led the team with 24 points and had 5 rebounds. Suderley also added 3 assists, a steal, and a block. Ryder recorded another double double and had 12 points and 11 rebounds. He also had an assist, a block, and a steal. Geisser had 11 points and 5 rebounds. Carpio had 5 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists. To round out the starters, Keane had 6 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 block.s

Off the bench Godley, Laputka, Blazek, Jon Zehe, and Aaron Laing saw time. Laputka had 3 points, 2 rebounds, and an assist as well as a steal. Laing had 3 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal. Godley added a rebound.

With this win we have captured the regular season Empire 8 title. This means that we will be hosting the Empire 8 tournament. We have one more game before the Empire 8 tournament will begin. On Saturday we will be playing Stevens at home at 4 p.m. in the Lambros Arena. In addition this will be the senior game as we say goodbye to our seniors.

Game tomorrow and Saturday

Tomorrow night we have a game at 8 p.m. against Alfred. The women will be playing before us at 6 p.m. This is an empire 8 game.

Saturday we play Elmira college at 4 p.m. and The women play before us at 2 p.m. This is also an empire 8 game. The Red Hot Ropers Jump Rope Club will be performing during the Men's halftime.
