Hartwick beat Ithaca and Utica

Over the weekend we played both Ithaca college and Utica college and we beat both of them. Friday night we played Utica college and beat them by 37 points. The ending score was 96-59. Saturday afternoon we played Ithaca college and had revenge from a home loss to beat them 78-75.

Against Utica every player on the team saw playing time. The team was led by Jared Suderley with 21 points and 12 rebounds. He also added a steal and a block. Chris Ryder had 13 points and 8 rebounds, and 2 assists. Anthony Keane had 13 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, as well as a steal and a block. Andres Carpio had 9 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. To round out the starters, Mark Blazek had 9 points, 3 assists, and a rebound. Due to the high lead in the game during the second half, the starters had the opportunity to have some rest.

Off the bench everyone saw time. Most notable off the bench was Mike Geisser. Geisser had 18 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. Christian Laputka had 3 points, 3 assists, and a steal. Aaron Laing had 2 points and 3 rebounds. Dustin Gratto had 4 points and 3 rebounds. Mike Henson had 2 points and 2 rebounds. Peter Melanson had 2 points and 1 rebound.

Saturday afternoon we were able to avenge our home lost against Ithaca to come back and win Saturday afternoon 78-75. In the finally seconds we were up by 3 but Ithaca guard Sean Rossi hit a game tying 3 pointer. Although, Anthony Keane in the final seconds answered back to hit a 3 pointer and win the game.

Jared Suderley had another great game with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists. Mike Geisser who started in place for injured guard Mark Blazek had another great outing with 19 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal. Geisser went 5 for 5 from 3 point land. Andres Carpio had 11 points, 4 rebounds, and an assist. Carpio also went 3 for 5 from beyond the arc. Chris Ryder had 9 points, 16 rebounds, a steal, and 2 assists. Anthony Keane who hit the game winning 3 pointer had 16 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds.

Off the bench, Aaron Laing had 4 points, 6 rebounds, and a block. Christian Laputka had an assist and a rebound. Jon Zehe and Travis Godley also saw time on the floor.

Both of these wins were Empire 8 games. This brings our record to 18-2 and 8-2 in Empire 8 action. We are off til Friday when we play Alfred in the Lambros Arena. Game time is 8 p.m. and the Women's team will play before us. Last time we played Alfred we lost. That gave us our first loss of the season. The team is again waiting to avenge the lost. The next day on Saturday we play Elmira college at 4 p.m.

Yesterday we played Stevens and won the game. With the win we are now number 1 in the Empire 8 standings. The ending score for the game was 68-66. It was a great win and several players made their mark in the game.

Mark Blazek led the team with 19 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Anthony Keane who scored a career high 18 points and 6 rebounds. Keane had a great game and sparked a second half scoring run. Jared Suderley had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Chris Ryder chipped in 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Andres Carpio added 2 points, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds.

Off the bench Aaron Laing added 6 points and 5 rebounds. Christian Laputka had 2 steals and an assist. Victor Angeline had one 3 pointer, Mike Geisser had 3 rebounds and an assist. Other players who saw time off the bench included Travis Godley and Jon Zehe.

Ryder named Empire 8 player of the week

Chris Ryder had been named Empire 8 player of the week after his performance against St. John Fisher and Nazareth. Against Nazareth, Ryder recorded his 1000th point. The team is off today but will play tomorrow at Stevens at 8 p.m. Over the weekend we will be playing against Utica, Friday night at 8 p.m. and then Saturday afternoon against Ithica at 4 p.m. Both of these games are Empire 8 games. Hartwick picks up 2 wins

On Friday night and Saturday afternoon we played two games and we won them both. Friday night we played St. John Fisher and won 76-58. It was a great game. Then Saturday afternoon we played Nazareth college and won 87-65.

Against St. John Fisher, Mark Blazek led us in scoring 24 points going 6 out of 7 from beyond the arc. Blazek's 3 pointers all came in the first half where he went 6 for 6. Chris Ryder recorded another double-double going for 14 points and 12 rebounds. Jared Suderley went for 12 points and 8 rebounds, in addition he had 3 assists. Anthony Keane had 7 points, 4 assists, and 5 rebounds. Andres Carpio had 6 points.

Off the bench several players saw time. Most notably were Aaron Laing, Christian Laputka, and Mike Geisser. Aaron Laing had 2 points and 4 rebounds. Christian Laputka had 4 points and 2 assists. Mike Geisser had 6 points and 2 rebounds. Dustin Gratto also saw playing time which he recorded a block.

Saturday afternoon we played Nazareth college. Chris Ryder led the team with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. During the game, Ryder recorded his 1000th point. This is the first time in several years where the basketball team had 2 players with over 1000 points. The other person is Mark Blazek who recorded his 1000th point last year.

Jared Suderley had 20 points and 7 rebounds. Anthony Keane had 7 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal, and a block. Mark Blazek had 15 points and 4 assists. Andres Carpio had 5 points and 2 assists.

Once again several players saw playing time. Once again the main players off the bench were Aaron Laing, Christian Laputka, and Mike Geisser. Laing had 12 points, 4 rebounds, and a block. Laputka had 4 points, 4 rebounds, and an assist. Geisser had 2 points, 4 assists, and a 4 rebounds.

Other players off the bench included Matt Petruccione, Ken Johnson, Shiva Sentihil, Brendan Griffin, Victor Angeline, Travis Godley, Mike Henson, Dustin Gratto, and Jake Karker.

After these two wins Hartwick has 15 wins and 2 losses. In the Empire 8 conference we are 4 and 2. We are off til Tuesday when we travel to Hobokan, New Jersey and play Stevens at 8 pm. We do not play at home until February 3 when we play Alfred college. We would like to thank the fans for all of their support and we hope it continues.

The men split the 2 games again

Over the weekend we played Ithica college and Utica college. These were both Empire 8 games and we split the pair. Both at home on Friday night we played Ithica and unfortunately lost but came back Saturday afternoon to defeat Utica college.

Friday night against Ithica the ending score was 73-71. Jared Suderley led the team with 21 points and 12 rebounds. In addition was almost perfect from the charity stripe going 11 for 12. Mark Blazek added 17 points and 8 rebounds. Andres Carpio had 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. While Chris Ryder had 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Travis Godley saw his first start of the season and chipped in 3 points and an assist.

Off the bench several players saw playing time. This includes Matt Petruccione who had 7 points. Aaron Laing had 4 points, 3 rebounds, and a block. Other players who came off the bench include Jon Zehe, Christain Laputka, Mike Geisser, and Anthony Keane.

The next night we played Utica college and won a tough game. The ending score was 87-81. At the half of the game it was tied up but at the end of the second half we were able to pull away. Suderley had a monster game with 33 points and 9 rebounds. In addition he went 4 of 5 from behind the arc. Mark Blazek had 28 points and 5 rebounds. Chris Ryder had 9 points and 14 rebounds. Carpio added 3 assists and Mike Geisser got the starting nod and had 2 points and 2 assists.

Once again several players came off the bench. Christian Laputka had 3 points and 4 assists. Laing had 4 points and 5 rebounds as well as a block. Anthony Keane played very well providing two key steals which both led to points in the secound half. Overall he would add 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, as well as those 2 key steals. Other players who saw time were Mike Henson, Travis Godley, Victor Angeline, Jon Zehe, and Matt Petruccione.

We are off til Friday when we play St. John Fisher at 8 p.m. at the Lambros Arena and the following day we will play Nazareth at 4 p.m. at the Lambros Arena. These are both Empire 8 games show up and show your support.

Hartwick Splits two games

Over the weekend we travel to Elmira, NY and Alfred, NY. Unfortunatly we split the games with a win in Elmira and a loss in Alfred. The loss at Alfred gave us our first loss of the season, resulting in our record now being 12-1.

In Elmira against Elmira College we won 71-60. We had three players in double figures. Anthony Keane had 18 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds. Chris Ryder had 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Jared Suderley had 14 points and 3 rebounds. Andres Carpio chipped in 6 points and added 5 assists. Mark Blazek had 8 points.

Several players saw playing time from the bench but Aaron Laing, Christian Laputka, and Mike Geisser say the most playing time out of all the bench.

In Alfred we played Alfred University and lost. The ending score was 66-72. This was the first loss of the season. With this loss we have matched the best start in Hartwick history when it comes to men's basketball.

Once again we had three players reach double figures in points. Chris Ryder led the team with 20 points and 8 rebounds and shot very well going 8 and 11 from the field which includes making both 3 point attempts. Mark Blazek had 13 points and Jared Suderley had 11 points and 4 rebounds. Anthony Keane chipped in 4 points, while, Andres Carpio added 2 as well as 4 assists.

Once again several players from the bench saw playing time. Travis Godley had 5 points, Christian Laputka had 1 point and 4 assists. Jon Zehe had 4 points and Aaron Laing had 6 points.

After this loss we are at 12-1 and 1-1 in conference play. We are off til Friday when we play Ithica college at 8 p.m. in Lambros Arena. The following day we will play once again at home against Utica college at 4 p.m. Please come and show your pride while we try to improve our record.

Hartwick picks up another 2 wins

On December 28th and 29th Hartwick traveled to York, PA to play in a tournament. On the 28th we played Delaware Valley and won 82-68 and on the 29th we played Penn State-Abington and won 104-90. While picking up the two wins we won the tournament.

Against Delaware Valley, Jared Suderley led the team with 34 points and 12 rebounds. Chris Ryder registered a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Anthony Keane chipped in with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and, 3 assists. Mark Blazek had 8 points as well as a team high 4 assists. Andres Carpio had 7 points as well as 2 assists.

The next day against Penn State-Abington, Suderley again led the team with 28 points. Carpio registered 17 points and 3 assists, Mark Blazek chipped in 15 points, Keane had 8 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds, Ryder had 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Victor Angeline chipped in 6 points both 3 pointers. Aaron Laing came off the bench to score 13 points and 7 rebounds.

At the end of the tournament Suderley was named tournament MVP and Andres Carpio made the all-tournament team.

In addition to being tournament MVP, Suderley has been named the Empire 8 player of the week and has been added to D3hoops.com team of the week.

With these two wins the Hartwick Men's basketball is 11-0. Hartwick opens up its Empire 8 play this weekend against Alfred and Elmira which are both away games. Friday at 8 p.m. we play Elmira and Saturday at 4 p.m. we play Alfred. If you are in the area please come to the game and support us.

Hartwick 9-0

Last night Hartwick won becoming 9-0. Since it was our last game of the semester, we had a perfect semester. The ending score was 62-49. Although Elms came out hot in the begining of the game with five points, Hartwick would come back and go on a 11-0 run. The run was powered by Anthony Keane who had 7 points in that run. At halftime Hartwick would lead 27-23.

In the second half Elms would cut our lead by two but that was as close as they got. We would then go on another run but this time it was 13-0 and this run was powered by Mark Blazek who had three 3-pointers.

Overall we shot 35.9% from the floor which was significantly better than Elms which shot 24.5% from the floor. Although Elms was near perfect from the line going 17 of 18, while Hartwick would shoot 11 for 18. In addition we would out rebound Elms by 36 to 48.

Anthony Keane played a significant role holding Elm's top scorer to just 5 points. Keane also had 10 points and 3 assists. Jared Suderley had a huge game with 19 rebounds and 13 points. The 19 rebounds would be a college career high for him. Mark Blazek had 21 points and went 4 for 7 from beyond the ark. Chris Ryder had his 2nd consecutive double double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, he would also chip in 3 assists. Christian Laputka had 4 points and 2 steals as well as a block.

Jake Karker, Shiva Senthil, Mike Geisser, Mike Henson, Brendan Griffin, Victor Angeline, Ken Johnson Jr., Jon Zehe, Travis Godley, Matt Petruccione, and Aaron Laing all saw playing time while coming off the bench.

This was the final game for the semester. Hartwick Men's basketball will not play again until December 28 in York , Pennsylvania in the York tournament. We will play at home again January 13 against Ithica college. Overall the Men's and Women's basketball program have a combined record of 16-2.

We would also like to thank the fans for coming out again last night and against the SUNY Oneonta game.

Last night we played our cross town rivals SUNY Oneonta. We prevailed with a 57 to 51 win. Although by the end of the 1st half Hartwick would be down 10 points we came back. In the second half we held the Red Dragons to 13 points.

Jared Suderley lead the team with 17 points and added 8 rebounds. Chris Ryder registered a double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds as well as 3 steals and a block. Andres Carpio had 9 points and 3 assists. Mark Blazek chipped in 7 points. Anthony Keane had 7 points as well.

Travis Godley, Jon Zehe, Aaron Laing, Mike Geisser, Christian Laputka, and Victor Angeline also saw playing time.

In addition the the beginning of the game our captains Chris Ryder, Andres Carpio, and Mark Blazek unveiled our Empire 8 championship banner before the game started.

Tonight we play Elms College at 8 p.m. We will try and improve our record to 9-0. This is the last game of the semester and we will not play at home again until January 13 against Ithica College. Please show up and show your support.

Tonight we beat Morrisville State to become 7-0. The end score was 89-66. We had great play from all the starters as well as several players who came off the bench. We shot 50% from the field which helped us compared to Morrisville's 34.3%. As well as out rebounding Morrisville.

Chris Ryder filled up the box score with 23 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks and a steal. Mark Blazek had 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Anthony Keane had 10 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and a steal as well. Andres Carpio had 7 points, 4 assists and 5 rebounds. To fill out the starters Jared Suderley had 7 points, and 5 rebounds.

From the bench Aaron Laing 6 points and 2 rebounds. Christian Laputka had 1 assist, 1 points, 2 steals, and 3 rebounds. Victor Angeline came off the bench and scored 6 points off of 2 threes. Mike Geisser had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists. Jon Zehe had 2 rebounds and 2 points off the bench as well. In addition Travis Godley also had 3 points.

Three freshman also saw some playing time this includes Brendan Griffin, Matt Petruccione, and Ken Johnson Jr.

We are off till Thursday when we take on our cross town rivals SUNY Oneonta. We are playing for bragging rights for the year. The men take the court at 8p.m. while the woman's team plays at 6p.m. If you can make it to the game come and support us as we try to improve to 8-0. Hartwick Men's basketball improves to 6-0

Last night we beat Keuka Storm. It was a 72-60 victory. Now we have improved to 6-0. This is our best start since 1987. We had three players who hit double digits in scoring. Jared Suderley had 13 points as well as 14 rebounds and 3 assists. Chris Ryder had 12 points and 8 rebounds. Mark Blazek had 11 points. Andres Carpio had 6 points and Anthony Keane had 8 points as well as 7 rebounds. Great bench play came from Aaron Laing, Mike Geisser, Christian Laputka and Victor Angeline.

We also saw apperences from Jake Karker, Shiva Senthil, Dustin Gratto, Jon Zehe, Mike Henson, Travis Godley, and Matt Petruccione. Matt Petruccione made his first points in college during this game.

Tomorrow afternoon we travel to Morrisville, New York to take on Morrisville State. We play at 3p.m. If you are in the area please come and show us your support as we try to add another win.

On Tuesday Hartwick traveled to Schenectady, New York to take on Union College. Hartwick won a close game 62-61. Although down at the half, Hartwick came back to win the game. Great play by Anthony Keane who had 15 points helped secure the win. Keane in the 2nd half made a half court shot with the shot clock running out. Blazek who had 17 points, Ryder who had 9 points, and Suderley with 15 points also had great games. Christian Laputka came off the bench and had 4 assists to go along with his 4 points. Great play also came from Andres Carpio, Travis Godley, Aaron Laing, Jon Zehe, and Mike Geisser.

The team will play again Saturday when the travel to Mark Blazek and Jon Zehe hometown in Erie, Pennsylvania when they play Penn State Behrend at 2 p.m.

Hartwick picks up a pair of wins at the Manhattanville tournament

This weekend at the Manhattanville tournament we picked up a pair of wins. Friday night we played Brooklyn College and tonight we played Manhattanville. We beat both teams by six. Friday night against Brooklyn we had four players reach double digits. Mike Geisser, Mark Blazek, Jared Suderley, and Chris Ryder. Ryder had 12 rebounds along with his 13 points giving him a double double. Mike Geisser helped us secure the victory with great fourth quarter play.

Tonight against Manhattanville, Mark Blazek had a great shooting performance making 6 of 7 shots from behind the arc and ended with 30 points and had six rebounds. Chris Ryder had 17 points along with 4 rebounds. Jared Suderley had 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists. Their was great play all around from Andres Carpio, Anthony Keane, Christian Laputka, Mike Geisser, Jon Zehe, and Aaron Laing. In addition Coach McGuinness played a key role with his play calling and coaching overall.

Hartwick does not play again until Tuesday when we travel to Schenectady, New York to face Union College. Game time is at 8p.m.

Last night we played Wells and were able to pull out a victory. Although it was a close game at the end the team put on a great performance and won by 2. Three players scored in double digits. Mark Blazek had 19 points, Chris Ryder had 13 points, and Jared Suderley had 11 points. The bench also chipped in and played great. Everyone is happy that we were able to start the season off right with a win. This weekend we will be traveling to Purchase, New York to play in the Manhattanville tournament. Hawks Chosen to Repeat in Empire 8 Men’s Basketball Poll

The Hartwick men's basketball team, which won its first Empire 8 title last year and advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship for the first time in 15 years, was selected to finish first in the Empire 8 Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Hawks, who received six first-place votes in the poll, return all five starters from last season's championship squad. Senior forward Chris Ryder (Port Washington, NY/Port Washington) earned first-team all-conference honors last season, ranking in the top-10 in the Empire 8 in scoring, rebounding, blocks, and free throw percentage. Jared Suderley (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) was named Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and Empire 8 Men's Basketball Championship Most Valuable Player. He led the Hawks in scoring and finished second in the conference.

Meet the Players- Mike Geisser

Hey, my name is Mike Geisser and I am a sophomore here at Hartwick. I am from East Hanover, New Jersey and attended Hanover Park High School before I got to college. I am currently majoring in Business Administration and have been enjoying my time in Oneonta on and off the court. Besides playing basketball I love to spend time with my family and friends along with watching movies.

Last year's season was the most exciting basketball experience I have ever been apart of. Winning the Empire 8 championship and making the NCAA tournament was an outstanding accomplishment and we are looking to come back even stronger this year. Practice has already started and I am definitely looking forward to another great season.

Hey I'm Shiva Senthil. I am from Clifton Park, New York which is suburb of Albany. I went to Catholic Central High School and I am currently a sophomore at Hartwick. Men’s Basketball Receives Votes in D3hoops Preseason Poll

The Hartwick men's basketball team was among 60 schools that received votes in the annual D3hoops.com preseason poll that was released today. Hartwick had a total of 42 points in the poll. Only 34 other Division III programs received more points than the Hawks.

Hartwick was one of six teams in New York State to receive votes in the poll. The University of Rochester was ranked seventh, Oswego State was ranked 18th and Buffalo State was ranked 19th. Hobart received votes with four points and SUNY Purchase, who defeated the Hawks in last year's NCAA Tournament game, had two points. Hartwick was the only Empire 8 team that received any votes in the poll.

'Wick, which is coming off a 17-11 season last year and is the defending Empire 8 champion, opens its 2011-2012 season on November 15th against Wells College at 8 p.m.

Hey, My name is Christian Laputka, I'm a sophomore here at Hartwick College. I went to Hazleton Area High School in Hazleton Pa. I am majoring in Biology, with the hopes of attending graduate school and becoming a physician assistant.

Last year was one of the most exciting years of basketball in my life. Coming from a winning program in high school I was excited to play a role in getting Hartwick back to winning ways. My teammates and I accomplished this goal last year by winning the Empire 8 championship. Winning that championship is a moment I will never forget and was proud to be a part of it. We are back at practice now and it feels like we never left, we are planning on improving this year and bringing more excitement to this campus.

Besides basketball and school work I like to hang out with my friends, listen to music, and play video games. I enjoy watching different TV sitcoms and any sports that are on TV.

Ryder Named Preseason All-American

Hartwick men's basketball senior forward Chris Ryder (Port Washington, NY/Port Washington) was one of 24 players named a preseason All-American by Division III News. Ryder was one of three players chosen in the East Region, along with Chad Burridge from Oswego State and John DiBartolomeo from the University of Rochester.

Ryder made the Empire 8 Conference First team last year and also earned National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) East Region All-District honors.
"Chris had a great junior year and really made huge strides as a player," head coach Todd McGuiness said. "He is primed for a great senior season."

Last year, Ryder paced the Hawks in rebounds (7.8 rpg) and finished second in scoring (17.2 ppg). He ranked 3rd in the Empire 8 in scoring average, 4th in rebounds, 6th in blocks (0.82), and 8th in free-throw percentage (.780). He scored at least 20 points nine times and recorded 28 points or more four times, including a career-high 32 in 'Wick's home finale against Elmira.

Hartwick will be looking to defend its Empire 8 Championship and return to the NCAA Tournament this coming season. The Hawks finished last year 17-11, the most wins for the program since 1995-96.'Wick will open their season on the road November 15 against Wells College at 8 p.m.

Hey everyone, my name is Matt Petruccione and I am in my first year at Hartwick. I attended Bishop Maginn High School in Albany, New York. My time in Oneonta has been great so far and the guys on the basketball team have made my college transition easier than I had expected.I am currently majoring in Business Administration but that might change down the road as I take different classes and try out new subjects.

My best basketball experience came last year when my high school team made it all the way to the Section 2 AA championship game after coming into the playoffs with a losing record. We were the Cinderella story throughout the whole playoffs so it was definitely exciting to go into every game knowing that we were the underdog.

Practice started on Saturday and it has been going well. The talent we have on our team is great and I look forward to learning and improving in all aspects as a player throughout the year.

Hey, My name is Victor Angeline, I'm a sophomore here at Hartwick College. I went to Rutgers Preparatory School in Central New Jersey, and I have had a great experience so far in Oneonta, NY. I am majoring in Economics and minoring in Finance, but I will probably add another minor depending on the branch of economics I decide to study.

In last year's blog, I recalled one of my greatest basketball moments as winning the Prep B State championship in my junior of high school, where we came back from a 20 points down in the first quarter to claim the title in the final moments of the fourth in a packed gymnasium. However, last year that memory was topped when we won the Empire 8 championship and earned a bid in to the Division III NCAA tournament. Here at Hartwick, we have a great group of guys on and off the court, and I am looking forward to having another successful season.

Aside from class and basketball, I am a Blue Key tour guide in admissions and an Economic tutor. I enjoy watching movies and keeping up television sitcoms and the latest sports news. Back home, I love to spend time with my family and catch up with friends.

Men’s Basketball Recognized in Sporting News Magazine

The Hartwick Men's Basketball team recently earned some national attention in the latest issue of Sporting News Magazine.

In the publication 2011-2012 college basketball preview issue
the Hawks were listed as a possible breakthrough team. Hartwick was one of only 45 divison III programs recognized in the publication.

The top 10 teams listed were: Virgina Wesleyan, Marietta, Augustana, Williams, St. Mary's (MD), University of Rochester, Franklin & Marshall, Oswego state, Wisconsin-Stevens point, and Cabrini college.

Last season the Hawks finished with a record of 17-11 and won the Empire 8 conference title for the first time in the program's history. They also made their first NCAA tournament appearance in 15 years.

Jared Suderley Named Empire 8 Freshman of the week

Suderley averaged 24.5 points and 11.5 rebounds as the Hartwick men's basketball team split road games at Nazareth and RIT. He tallied 19 points and pulled down 12 boards in the Hawks' 59-54 victory over the Golden Flyers. Suderley scored a career-high 30 points and added 11 rebounds in an 83-79 Hawks' loss to the Tigers. For the weekend, he hit 17 of 32 field goals and made 15 of 16 free throws.

It is the second rookie of the week award for Suderley this season. He also was named Empire 8 Player of the Week on December 6th. He is currently leading the Hawks in scoring average (18.5 ppg) and rebounding (9.0 rpg).

Hartwick works with EDD Memorial

The EDD Memorial Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides recreational and competitive sports programs for young people with disabilities. Our goal is to level the playing field by making sports accessible and fun for children and young adults with disabilities. The players worked with the young people on their basketball skills.

Hey, my name is Shiva Senthil and I'm a freshman from Clifton Park, NY which is a suburb of Albany. I attended Catholic Central High School and I'm a business major at Hartwick College. Along with my business major I am considering double majoring in economics and doing a minor in political science. Hartwick College seemed like the perfect fit for me because it has a good educational reputation, it seemed like a place where I would enjoy playing basketball at, and I really liked the coaching staff and the players on the team. It seemed like a place where I could really succeed at and a place that I would enjoy for the next four years.

A little bit about me. I am an absolute gym rat. I love being in the gym and working on all parts of my game. I shoot and dribble every single day and when I say every day, I literally mean it. I'm there whenever I have free time and it’s a priority for me to get in the gym. Over the summer, I shot 1000 shots and did dribbling workout with my brother every day. This took about 4 to 5 hours but in my mind it was worth it.

Outside of basketball, I love being with my friends and family. I'm really close to them and they are a big part of my life. I also like watching sports, movies and TV, and just going out with friends and having a good time. I am also a huge Yankee fan and I was so mad when they lost to the Rangers this year. My favorite basketball team is the NJ Nets but my favorite players are Kobe Bryant and Stephen Curry. As for football, my team is the Atlanta Falcons but I barely get to see them because they don't play in our network.

I am hoping for a great freshman year on and off the court and it should be a great 4 years to come!

I am having a great time at Hartwick. Oneonta is a quiet town with an exciting college lifestyle surrounding it. This past summer I spent a majority of my time traveling and working on my game. After working the Hartwick basketball camp, I attended Point Guard College with current teammate, Mark Blazek. The camp was a good experience to better my skills and meet players from different colleges.

I'm returning for my junior year for our basketball team here at Hartwick College. I'm a declared Business Administration Major and a Graphic Communications Minor, so this fall I've been taking a lot of classes to get myself toward graduating with both of those degrees. I've been excited to start taking some of the more in depth classes for my major along with starting to take classes towards my minor this fall.

My summer consisted of a lot of work. I worked at a Beer and Soda Distributor in my town of Port Washington on Long Island and also played on 3 summer league basketball teams. I had a busy and productive summer and was very excited to start this season off on the right foot. Now that we've been playing for a little bit my excitement for the season hasn't changed at all. Now I am counting down the days until November 15th and our first game home game in Lambros Arena vs. Wells College.

Hartwick Welcomes Coach Gibbs

Dan Gibbs joins the Hartwick College men’s basketball program as an assistant coach for the 2010-11 academic year.

Prior to Hartwick, Gibbs spent four years at Syracuse University as the Assistant Head Team Manager for the Orange basketball program. While at SU, Gibbs assisted the Orange coaching staff with training forwards and centers at practices and ran off-season workouts for the players. In addition, he supervised a staff of 20 managers and performed promotional work for Orange summer camps.

Gibbs also has served as both a basketball intern at IMG and a marketing/operations assistant at Hoops Mountain Inc. Basketball Camp. At IMG, he assisted in basketball workouts for college and NBA players and coached and directed camps for players ages 12-22. At Hoops Mountain, Gibbs served as director of tournament sites and summer camps.

Gibbs earned his bachelor's degree in marketing management from Syracuse University in May 2010.

Hartwick College Basketball graduated three seniors this weekend. The three players helped moved the program forward and will be missed greatly. Mike Tracy Jr, a double major in Physics and Business, has accepted a job in Boston. Kyle Phillips, Mathematics major, will be working in Boston in the fall. Hartwick helps with EDD Memorial Fund

This past weekend the Hartwick Men’s Basketball team helped with the EDD Memorial Fund at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club. Eight young people with disabilities spent the afternoon improving their basketball skills working with members of our team. We did different shooting games and skill work with the young people. The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2010 Men's Basketball All-Conference teams on Thursday. Hartwick sophomore guard Mark Blazek (Erie, PA/Erie Cathedral Prep), senior center Kyle Phillips (Ashland, MA/Ashland), and senior forward James Mantas (Niskayuna, NY/CBA) each were recognized. Blazek, the league's second leading scorer and reigning Rookie of the Year, earned first team honors. Phillips garnered honorable mention, and Mantas was Hartwick's Sportsman of the Year.

Blazek ranks second in the conference in scoring (20.3 points per game) and free throw percentage (80.8 percent), and third in three-point field goals (2.3 per game) this season. He scored in double figures in all 24 of the Hawks' games this season and has accumulated 110 three-point baskets in two seasons at 'Wick, good enough for 8th in the all-time Hartwick record book. Blazek was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I First Team by CoSIDA earlier this year.

Phillips led Hartwick in rebounding (6.3 rpg), and blocks (40), and finished second behind Blazek in scoring with an average of 14.8 points per game. He recorded four double-doubles and reached double figures in scoring in 21 of 24 games this season. He closes out his four years at 'Wick with a career field goal percentage of .558 (274-for-493) and his 72 blocked shots ranks 3rd all-time in College history.

One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2010 Empire 8 Men's Basketball Sportsman of the Year Team. The E8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. Mantas consistently exhibited the critical traits as an outstanding sportsman throughout the year. He was one of two players on the team to start in all 24 games this season for the Hawks, averaging 6.4 points per game. He led Hartwick in steals this season with 38 and was second on the squad in rebounding (5.2 rpg), assists (61), and blocks (14).

In conference play, the Hartwick men's basketball team had its best season in nine years. 'Wick recorded seven E8 wins and finished sixth in the conference standings this year. It marks the team's highest win total and finish in the standings since the 2000-2001 team won seven and placed fourth.

SENIOR BLOG- KYLE PHILLIPS

As there is one week left of my basketball career at Hartwick College, I am slowly trying to stop the seconds from passing. These past four years have certainly made a tremendous impact on my life. I went through a drastic transformation from being a shy, skinny freshman to what I am now.

I have built a great collection of memories at Hartwick. Playing Oneonta State each year was always the most anticipated game. I’ve never been part of a game with a crowd of over 2,500. Each year playing RIT was an experience in itself. We have had many battles playing them, most seeming like roller coasters. The fondest memory was probably wining the ECAC championship over St. John Fisher. Having not beaten them in over 20 years, and not winning the ECAC in multiple tries, gave me great pride in being part of the Hartwick Men’s Basketball program.

It is easy to say I do not regret coming to Hartwick. Four years ago I chose to come to Hartwick simply based on the great people at the school. I easily became friends with the players. You won’t find any other team in the U.S. like the Hartwick Men’s Basketball team. I’ve seen many unique personalities through my four years. Matt “Simo”, ate, drank, and breathed WWE. Jan Coccoziello had a severe obsession over Kobe Bryant, and tried to mimic every posture, facial expression, and move Kobe did on the court. Greg Bankowski looked like he came right out of the 1980s and belonged in the movie Goodfellas. Teddy Bridgeman couldn’t tell you the president of the United States, but could give you the whole NY Giants roster with player stats and thorough analysis. Eric Mingos is famous for two things, his gauging biceps, and a killer jump shot. Dan Devantier always has a mental meltdown before he even shoots the ball. It’s these bizarre, yet endearing characters, and more, that have made my time at Hartwick College worthwhile.
In the months to come I look to finish school and graduate and put my mathematics degree to use.

SENIOR BLOG- MIKE TRACY

I've been a part of a lot of great memories in my time at Hartwick College. I've met amazing people and have created lifelong friendships with a lot of people. I've spent most of my life at Hartwick being as my dad was a football coach here for 15 years before taking a coaching job at Hamilton College. During those years, I was able to see how college athletics were which the average kid doesn't get to do. Also during those years, I was able to treat Binder as a sort of playground which again not many kids get to do, so I like to believe there's a special connection I have with Binder and the whole Hartwick campus.

As for reflecting on my years attending Hartwick, many things come to mind as memorable. From the beginning as a freshman being able to go to Las Vegas and compete with other colleges in basketball from around the country and also in the same year playing baseball doing the same thing in Arizona for my spring break.

Another big part of my athletic career is playing football and being part of an Empire 8 championship team. Without playing in high school it was something challenging and also a good feeling to know that with dedication many things are possible.

Academically completing two majors in Physics and Business have been an even more important accomplishment. The hard work put into that has been just as challenging as participating in three different sports.

Overall I have met many important influences at Hartwick from my football coach Mark Carr, basketball coaches Paul Culpo and Todd McGuinness, and business professors Penny Wightman and Scott Dalrymple to name a few. I could go on about the good memories I've accumulated from this school but I'll try to save some for myself.

Blazek Earns First Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Honors

ONEONTA, NY - Sophomore guard Mark Blazek (Erie, PA/Erie Cathedral Prep) of the Hartwick College men's basketball team has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Blazek is one of only five men's basketball players who were selected to the first team in the College Division, which is comprised of NCAA Division II and III and NAIA programs in New England, New York and Canada. With his all-district selection, Blazek now will be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Blazek, the reigning Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and a key factor in the Hawks' run to the ECAC Upstate title, has led Hartwick to an 8-11 overall record and 5-6 mark in the Empire 8 standings this season. He is averaging 20.2 points per game which ranks 2nd in the Empire 8 and 43rd in Division III. Blazek also ranks 1st in the conference in free throw percentage (.836), 3rd in 3-pointers made (46), and 9th in assists (3.11 apg).

A Student Athletic Advisory Board (SAAB) member and Oneonta YMCA Phone-a-thon volunteer, Blazek has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.97, which is tied for the highest GPA among all District 1 award winners. He is a Biology major and an Admissions volunteer at 'Wick.

Hartwick Storms Back To Beat Utica 81-62

ONEONTA, NY - Hartwick plays a dominant second half to erase a nine-point halftime deficit in an 81-62 win over Utica on Saturday at Lambros Arena. The Hawks outscored the Pioneers 50-22 and held a 32-12 edge in rebounds in the second session to roll to the victory. The win improves Hartwick's record to 6-9 overall, 3-4 in the Empire 8, and snaps a 15-game losing streak to the Pioneers. The Hawks last tasted victory over UC on Jan. 19, 2002. UC slips to 6-8 and 1-5 with today's loss.

Mark Blazek (Erie, PA/Erie Cathedral Prep), Chris Ryder (Port Washington, NY/Port Washington) and Kyle Phillips (Ashland, MA/Ashland) combined for 61 of the Hawks 81 points on the afternoon. Blazek paved the way with 24. Ryder added a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Phillips notched 18 points and eight boards.

Martin McCann (Hopewell Junction, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) was also in double figures with 10 points and James Mantas (Niskayuna, NY/CBA) scored six, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out three assists and made three blocks. Shane Tanzosh (Warwick, NY/Warwick) played a strong second half and finished the game with career-highs of 11 rebounds and five offensive boards. He also registered team-bests of four assists and two steals.

Utica was led by Patrick Goodman's 17 points. Will Abrams added 10 points, and James Patterson, Kevin Johnson, and George Schultz each netted seven.

The Hawks and Pioneers played evenly for the opening eight minutes of the game until Hartwick gained an eight-point lead, 23-15, with a 10-2 run in a two and a half minute span. Blazek had eight of 'Wick's points with a jumper and a pair of three's. With the Hawks seemingly in control with less than eight minutes to play in the opening half, the Pioneers turned the tables on their hosts going on a 21-5 run to close the first period up 40-31. UC hit 9-of-18 shots in the span while limiting Hartwick to just 2-of-16 shooting.

The Hawks came out and played an inspired second half and following a 14-4 run to start the stanza, 'Wick regained the lead. A Ryder jumper at the 12:45 mark gave the Hawks the edge for good, 47-46, and a 15-2 Blue and White spurt over the next four minutes would put the game away. Utica never managed to cut the 'Wick lead to under 10 points the rest of the game and Hartwick secured the victory.

The Hawks shot 48% from the floor in the contest, including 56% (18-of-32) in the second half, and out-rebounded the Pioneers 50-32. UC ended the game shooting 40%, but hit just 27% (9-of-33) in the all-important second half.

The Hawks, currently fifth in the E8 standings, will travel to RIT and St. John Fisher next weekend in a pair of important conference games.

BLAZEK NAME EMPIRE 8 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ROCHESTER, NY - Hartwick sharpshooter Mark Blazek (Erie, PA/Erie Cathedral Prep) was named the Empire 8 Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday for his performances against Skidmore, Ithaca and Elmira last week.

Blazek scored a career-high 35 points to lead Hartwick to a 72-62 win at Elmira on Saturday, hitting a career-best eight 3-pointers. He surpassed the 20-point mark in all three Hawks' games with 23 points against undefeated Skidmore and 21 at Ithaca. For the week, Blazek averaged 26.3 points (25-of-52 from the field, 15-for-32 from three-point range, and 14-of-18 from the line) and 3.7 assists per game.

For the year, Blazek leads the team and ranks in the top 5 in the Empire 8 in scoring with a 23.1 points per game average. The reigning Empire 8 Rookie of the Year has knocked down 27 three-point baskets in the Hawks' first seven games.

Locker Room Renovations

Our locker room has gone through a major renovation. A new carpet with our Hawk logo has been added and new stools with Hartwick Basketball have been added. The locker room is used for film, meetings and hanging out. We are lucky to have such a nice space. On the walls are pictures of the Great Hartwick players and teams. We have a great tradition and we are working to build on that tradition.

HARTWICK WINS 1ST GAME

AURORA, NY - Hartwick College topped Wells College 66-59 in men's basketball on Sunday in the season opener for both teams. Sophomore Mark Blazek (Erie, PA/Erie Cathedral) poured in a game-high 24 points to lead the Hawks. The game marked the first on-campus contest for the Express, in its second year as a Division III program.

Blazek connected on four of his nine shots from the floor, including three treys. He also went 13-of-14 from the free-throw line. Senior Kyle Phillips (Ashland, MA/Ashland) added 15 points and a team-best seven rebounds. Senior Martin McCann (Hopewell Junction, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) registered nine points hitting three out of his six attempts from beyond the three-point arc.

The game was back and forth throughout with the lead changing hands 13 times. The Express, which was just a game away from the NCAA Tournament last season losing in the NEAC finals, gained the upper hand, 9-7, on a Paulino layup with 15 minutes to play in the first half. The Express kept the advantage until the final minute of the period.

Wells gained its biggest lead of the day, 25-18, with less than six minutes left before the Hawks scored on its next four possessions to dig into the deficit. With less under a minute left, two Phillips free throws gave the Hawks their first lead and senior James Mantas (Niskayuna, NY/CBA) hit a layup with nine second on the clock for a 35-32 Hartwick edge at the break.
A 12-2 run early in the second half regained the lead for Wells and with 14 minutes to play the Express held a 44-40 edge. The game see-sawed back and forth for the next 10 minutes with neither team able to earn more than a two-point advantage. ''Wick took the lead for good with five minutes left as Blazek hit two free throws to snap a 54-54 tie. From there, Hartwick did all of its scoring from the charity stripe hitting 10-of-12. Blazek would connect on nine of the free throws for the Hawks to help put the game on ice.

The Hawks are back in action next weekend as they host three teams in the Tom Greene Memorial Tip-Off Classic. Hartwick opposes Cazenovia and MCLA on the weekend with Castleton State also taking part in the tournament.

LAMBROS ARENA

Our home court last year went through a $700,000 renovation project. Last year was the first year that we competed in the arena. The arena features a new playing surface, new lights, and new bleachers with chair back seating. The gym was renamed after former Hartwick Coach Nick Lambros who compiled a record of 353-191 in his 21 year. Coach Lambros still helps out with the program and is a great link to the former players

Halloween is a considered a Holiday in Oneonta, NY and our players wear very unique costumes. We decided this year to have the players dress up for practice. Some of the costumes were very creative and maybe not so suitable for the blog. The picture is of our upper classmen and their costumes. We even had the Hartwick College mascot Swoop show up for practice. We are preparing for our first game and can’t wait to see what this season brings us.

My name is Dan DeVantier and I am currently a senior at Hartwick. I am from Roscoe, NY which is about an hour away from Hartwick. I am majoring in business and would like to pursue a career in sales after graduation. My passion, however, is coaching. I would like to become a college basketball coach and continue participating in the game that I have played since fifth grade. In my spare time I enjoy watching college basketball, hanging out with my friends, and of course fishing.

I transferred to Hartwick from Columbia-Greene Community College at the beginning my junior year. I decided to come to Hartwick because I really liked the small school atmosphere. Most importantly, I wanted to play basketball and Hartwick’s program strongly attracted me. I am very excited to see what my senior year will bring.

Hi, I'm Mike Tracy and this is my senior year at Hartwick College. I am a fifth year senior who had another year of eligibility left after taking a year off of basketball my junior year to pursue college football. Overall I have played three sports at Hartwick (Basketball, Baseball, and Football).

I am a double major in Physics and Business. I am from Morris, NY so I grew up in this area and consider Hartwick my second home. My father coached football here at Hartwick for 15 years up until the spring of my freshman year. He now coaches at Hamilton College. Growing up around the Hartwick environment really made it easy to pick this place to continue my education. I liked it so much I decided to stay another year! After I graduate I hope to pursue a career in business finance or sports business.

Being around Hartwick athletics for so long has allowed me to understand the tradition and talent is HARTWICK BASKETBALL. Being a part of that these past years has been an honor. I have been able to experience the highs and the lows of every season and wouldn't trade anything to give that up. Coming off of a successful season last year solidified a winning mentality which is an integral part to any athletic program. Part of the reason I came back for a fifth year was because of the confidence I have in the returning players and Coach McGuinness. I'm hoping to use everything I've learned to be someone the younger players can look to throughout the season. I'm excited for this team and I have very high expectations for us.

Hello. My name is Mark Blazek and I’m a sophomore here at Hartwick. I grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania. Right now I’m biology major with future plans to attend graduate school to become a physical therapist. I’m a big fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns (I know…ouch) and the Philadelphia 76ers. Basketball is my main activity but I also enjoy watching movies, playing ping pong, sand volleyball, and Texas Hold ‘Em. My favorite player is Chris Paul, but I enjoy watching Steve Nash, Deron Williams, and Dwayne Wade.

On a more serious note, I chose Hartwick because the school offers individual attention in the classroom which was important to me. Hartwick’s collaboration with Sage Graduate School for guaranteed placement in their physical therapy program was another attractive aspect. The campus community made me feel at home even though I live five hours away. Also, the view from the top of the hill is unbelievable!

On the basketball side of things, I wanted to help revive a basketball program with a rich history of success. The gym is newly renovated and a great place to play. The team had a successful year last year and I look for things to only get better.

Although I live over four hours from Hartwick, I felt that the education at Hartwick was too good to pass up. I am sociology major and I hope to become a Boston police officer, or at least something in the field of criminal justice. I feel that the small school setting at Hartwick is perfect for me; the professors are willing to go out of their way to see you succeed in the classroom.

Hey, my name is Travis Godley and I am from Putnam, CT. Coming out of my senior year in high school I looked at Hartwick and loved it but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go so far away. To make sure I would find the right place for me, I did a Post Graduate year at a prep school and explored more options. No matter where I visited I just knew Hartwick was the place for me.

Coach McGuiness and the players welcomed me right away and made feel right at home. The classes here are great. Right away I could tell that the professors really cared about me and wanted me to succeed. The professors are always ready to help and I couldn’t ask for anything more. I’m in a great situation to succeed on and especially off of the court.

Hello my name is Eric Mingos and I am a sophomore. I am from Whitney Point NY which is about 10 minutes north of Binghamton. I am sociology major and interested in the criminal justice aspect of it.

I enjoyed this past summer hanging with friends, working, and playing some ball. I enjoy watching and playing football, baseball, and obviously basketball. My favorite teams are the New York Yankees, Houston Rockets, and of course the notorious St. Louis Rams. My favorite sport figures are Yao Ming and Marc Bulger because they are absolutely the most dominant players in their sport.

I had a wonderful experience last year with basketball, school, and the college lifestyle. Having enjoyed last year, I was looking forward to starting another year. I am excited in having another successful year on and off the court this year. I hope you can come and support the team.

My name is Martin McCann and I am currently a junior at Hartwick College. I am from Hopewell Junction, NY and I attended Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, NY. I was born and raised in northern California. I root for the Golden State Warriors and the San Francisco Giants. My other favorite sports teams are the New York Giants and the New York Yankees. Although professional sports are enjoyable to watch, there is nothing like college basketball.

This past summer I worked as a coach and instructor at many different basketball camps. I worked at Hartwick's two basketball camps here on campus. In addition I worked at Stanford, University of Connecticut and Syracuse University's camps. It was a great experience to share my knowledge and love for the game with many young players.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my first two years at Hartwick College. Winning the ECAC's last year was a huge accomplishment for our program. I am extremely excited for the upcoming season and I cannot wait for games to start.

My name is Jon Zehe from Erie, PA. I played basketball all four years of high school and now I’m playing at Hartwick College in Oneonta NY. I’ve played basketball basically my whole life. During my senior year of high school, one week before the playoffs I broke my knee and had surgery. The surgery put me out for a little over six months. Finally after rehabbing all summer, I am ready to play.

Even though I live in Pennsylvania, I dislike every Pittsburgh sports team. I am a Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and a Los Angeles Lakers fan. I love watching professional sports and enjoy following my favorite teams.

I have two older sisters who attend Tampa University and Penn State University. Even though my siblings go to large schools, I am happy that I am at a small college because I can make better connections.

I’m happy where I am at, and I can’t wait for the games to start.

JUST WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR

Just wait ‘til next year!” This thought pops into the head of just about every player once a season comes to a close. Every player thinks about what will happen next year. We all have hopes and aspirations as players and as a team. We take steps to improve ourselves in the offseason, all in preparation for next year. Well, “next year” becomes “this year” in less than week for the men’s basketball team here at Hartwick.

This year will be extra-fresh in a lot of ways. First, we have a new coaching staff with the departure of Coach Culpo and Coach Kindlon and the arrival of head coach Todd McGuinness and assistant coach Nick Nichay. Also, five players from last year’s team were lost to graduation so Hartwick basketball will have no lack of opportunities for incoming and returning players to step up their play fill in those newly opened spots on the floor. The new season gives players a chance to show what they can do to help this team. Six incoming freshman will be tasting college basketball for the first time. Binder Gymnasium which had its name changed to “Lambros Arena” in the last game of the regular season last year still has its “new gym smell” as it’s barely a year old.

One person who can hardly be considered “new” is Mike Tracy. Tracy graduated last year but still has a remaining year of eligibility so he will return as a welcomed member of this year’s team. His leadership and experience will definitely be a valued asset to the team.

This offseason I spent a lot of time watching highlights of current and former NBA players such as Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Tim Hardaway, Pete Maravich, Ray Allen, Manu Ginobili, and others. I tried to study what makes each of them great and tried to incorporate some of their game into my own. I feel that the year of college basketball experience under my belt will greatly benefit me this season. I’m pumped, I’m hyped, I’m excited for the season to start but, “Just wait…”.

I am from Niskayuna New York which is right outside of Albany. I have a younger brother who also plays basketball but for Skidmore College. I am a very family oriented person and I am very outgoing and friendly.

I am going to miss this school and my friends very much, the memories and relationships I have accumulated throughout my four years here will stay with me for the rest of my life. I am looking forward to our season and I believe we have it in us to have a very successful season and even surprise a number of people this year. We have a great group of guys and when push comes to shove I know they are all with me. Overall I am glad to have been a part of Hartwick and I’m enjoying every moment of my time left here.

My name is Teddy Bridgman and I am sophomore from Wayland MA. I am a business major and hope to obtain my masters in Communication after I graduate from Hartwick. Before Hartwick, I attended Tilton Prep School in Tilton, NH. I have a younger brother Taylor who is a senior in high school, my mother is an office manager for JSB-partners and my father is a medical sales man for Bio-tissue.

I have always loved sports and becoming a sports commentator has been a long time dream of mine. I have always loved the game of basketball and love playing in college. Coaching is another career path that I may look into pursing when I am done playing at Hartwick. My favorite sports teams are the New York Giants, Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics - I could talk sports all day.

I love it here at Hartwick College, because it is a small liberal arts college. I love the one on one time we spend with our professors and the small class sizes. When I leave Hartwick, I know I will be a better and more rounded individual.

My name is Kyle Phillips. I am a senior majoring in mathematics from Ashland, Massachusetts. I have two brothers. My older brother works for a printing company in Boston. Mt twin brother is a senior at Bowdoin College. My father is an engineer at Eaton and my mother is a retired elementary school teacher.

Born and bread in Massachusetts has made me a die hard Patriots, Celtics, and Red Sox fan. Over three years spent in New York I have warmed up to cheering for the Giants and Mets, but still have a very passionate hatred for the Yankees, Jets, and Knicks. I absolutely love college basketball and can’t wait for March Madness 2010.

The major reason why I came to Hartwick College is the people. Everyone has great character and integrity. I have built many lasting relationships from players, coaches, professors, and the student body. Hartwick is a very concise community where you can go to anybody for advice. I will always treasure my years at Hartwick as some of the best ever in my life.

Hello! My name is Shane McHugh and I am a sophomore at Hartwick College. I am originally from a small town on the border of Massachusetts in New York called New Lebanon. I live with both of my parents, Shaun and Donna and my little brother, Kyle.

I choose Hartwick for a variety of reasons; namely, the class sizes, distance to campus from where I live and of course, Basketball. I am very excited to get my sophomore season underway. As a freshman, our team won the ECAC tournament and I am looking forward to an even more successful season this year.

As for my studies at Hartwick, I am a political science major, with a Pre-Law interest. I also am thinking about obtaining a minor in Computer and Information science. I plan to graduate Hartwick in 2012, upon which I plan on attending Law school. My father is a state magistrate so I have grown up with an interest in the law.

In my free time I like to play sports, video games and hang out with friends. I also play Bass Guitar for the alternative rock band Adam’s Crossing (we hope to release our first studio album sometime next summer!)

This season should be very exciting as we have a new look team; with the addition of a new freshman class and a new coaching staff it should be interesting. See you all on the court.

My name is Aaron Laing and I am a freshman here at Hartwick College. I am very excited to begin my four years here and hope it will be an enjoyable experience. I grew up in Laurens New York which is just a few miles away from the Hartwick campus. I was a three sport athlete in high school but basketball has always been a passion of mine. I am ecstatic that I’m able to continue playing throughout college. My family has always been very supportive of me throughout the years, they are great.

I can’t what to see what happens on and off the court in the next few years that I spend at Hartwick. It should be quite an adventure.

My name is Sam Young, and I am from Warner, NH. Currently, I am a freshman at Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY. Warner is roughly four and a half hours from Oneonta, but the geographic layout is about the same so it has not been too much of a change location wise for me.

In my next four years here at Hartwick, I intend to accomplish a lot. First I hope to find a subject that I love, considering I will be spending my next 40 years doing whatever it is I do. Second I hope to have an enjoyable basketball career. Finally, I hope to meet people I have never met and do things I never would have thought to do in the previous chapters of my life.

Over the summer I worked for my friend’s father haying and I worked for Mas-Con Masonry Company. In my spare time I like to play basketball, ride motorcycles, hike, hang out with friends, swim, and fish with my father.

Hey my name is Chris Ryder, I’m a sophomore at Hartwick college. I’m from Port Washington, Long Island and play Basketball here at Hartwick. I am also on the club volleyball team when I’m not playing basketball. I have an older brother who graduated from Salisbury University in Maryland. He is currently living in Boulder, Colorado, managing a restaurant and playing professional indoor box lacrosse. He also is coaching the men’s lacrosse team at Boulder High School along with doing personal training lessons in lacrosse. My Father is the Chief Helicopter Pilot and Manager for the company Ventura Air Services. My mother is a 3rd grade teacher at Glenwood Landing elementary school in the North Shore school district.

My favorite sports teams are The Giants, The Mets, The Islanders, and I have no favorite NBA team but I want The Knicks to do well. My favorite player of all time is Hakeem Olajuwon and my favorite active player I would say is either Chris Bosh or Danny Granger.

I like Hartwick because of the relationships I’ve built with the people here. Being that it’s a small school I get the extra attention in the classroom that I need to succeed in the classroom. The campus is really nice and has a great view of the City of Oneonta. My decision was influenced because I wanted to play basketball in college and I’ve found the perfect fit for me as a student-athlete. This program has a great history and great support from the Alumni. The ultimate goal for our team here is to bring the program back to where it once was. I believe I am part of something here with the group that we have and believe we have the right kind of people to turn this program around.

I am currently undecided as a major but will declare a business major at the end of this year. I have no clue what I want to do in the future but I’m enjoying my time at Hartwick. I am excited for this season because I believe we have a lot to prove to our league and I have a lot to prove individually this year. It’s going to be a great year.
